In conjunction with the upcoming transition to the new radio system approved by the voters last July, and in consideration of the pandemic response protocol implemented as a result of COVID-19, the Eaton’s Neck Fire Department has transitioned answering of emergency telephone calls to the Suffolk County Fire Rescue Communications Center in Yaphank. The County Communications Center is an enhanced 911 facility staffed by certified emergency medical and fire dispatchers. Among the benefits of using medical priority dispatch, dispatchers can provide life-saving pre-arrival instructions to callers. Calls to our previously published 7-digit emergency telephone number will now be answered at the County Communications Center but residents are encouraged to dial 911 for fire or medical emergencies. By dialing 911, the caller’s location is automatically provided to the dispatcher which is particularly useful if the caller is unable to provide the location or nature of the emergency. Location information is provided for both wireline and wireless calls. At-risk individuals are also encouraged to create a profile at www.smart911.com. With Smart911, you can sign up and share critical medical information or any other information you want first responders to know in any kind of emergency.
