The Eaton’s Neck Fire Department hosted its 45th Annual Independence Day Parade on Monday, July 4. Former Fire Commissioner Walter Roy Beach, who turned 90 on July 4 and has over 63 years in the volunteer fire service, served as grand marshal of the parade. Beach served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and took part in the Normandy landings on D-Day. He has been a member of the Eaton’s Neck Fire Department for 43 years, where he served for 30 years as Fire Commissioner. Before joining Eaton’s Neck, Beach served for 20 years in the Levittown Fire Department. Beach was honored earlier this year by the Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York in recognition for over 50 years in the volunteer fire service. Beach is still an active member of the Eaton’s Neck Fire Department and works the firehouse radio room during alarms. See local news coverage at NBC New York.
